Microsoft launched an Open Source Project: Conversion of Microsoft Office (doc, xls, ppt) binary format to OpenXML.
DIaLOGIKa has been chosen by Microsoft as the main contributor in this project. Thus, DIaLOGIKa supports – apart from the Open XML/ODF Translator project (see https://sourceforge.net/projects/odf-converter/) – another SourceForge project in the domain of file formats and standards.
On February 15th 2008, Microsoft has disclosed its binary Office formats documentation under the Open Specification Promise (http://www.microsoft.com/interop/osp/default.mspx). They can directly be downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/interop/docs/officebinaryformats.mspx. At the same time the Office Binary (doc, xls, ppt) Translator to Open XML project was launched on SourceForge (see http://b2xtranslator.sourceforge.net/). The main goal of this project is to create software tools, plus guidance, showing how a document written using the Binary Formats (doc, xls, ppt) can be translated into the Office Open XML format.
