A nuclide chart (also isotope chart, table of isotopes) is a graphic representation of all the known nuclides (atomic species). Basically, this is for nuclear physics what the periodic table of elements is for chemistry.

Versatile data – preprint also for extreme formats

Various prototype images were developed for Adobe InDesign so that the resulting nuclide overviews can not only be processed to yield electronic documents, but also used to produce various types of print products (nuclide carpet, pop-up cards, wall posters, etc.).

Task

We were to create a graphic presentation from an SQL database with physical data on nuclides that, as a prprint stage for every printing format from brochure to lecture hall chart, was editable and administrable.

Solution

A key requirement was that the exporting of database (in whole or in parts) had to be done interactively, the formatting of the exported data supported, and the generated PDF documents were to be suitable for printing.

Result

In a multi-stage process using an SQL database and Adobe InDesign as an intermediary step, a range of formats including some extreme ones were produced as PDF files from the prepress data. Further, DIaLOGIKa programmed a web-based application for integrating the Karlsruhe Nuclide Chart into Nucleonica.
